A Symbol of SeaPoint's Sustainable Approach
At the entrance to the SeaPoint Complex, nestled between industrial operations and bustling rail cars, sits an eight-acre solar farm and honeybee sanctuary, a symbol of our ongoing commitment to sustainability.
Dulany Industries, Inc., the parent company of SeaPoint Complex, partnered with Five Hives and Vines (FH&V), a Statesboro-based beekeeping and meadery operation, to establish a pollinator garden and help grow the honeybee population in Savannah, Georgia.
From Landfill to Solar Farm
In the first year of the partnership, FH&V placed twelve hives, home to over 240,000 honeybees, at the entrance to the complex beside an existing solar field that powers over 600 homes on a sunny day. The hives, solar farm, and indigenous wildflowers for pollination are positioned on the former City of Savannah Deptford Landfill, which Dulany Industries, Inc. successfully remediated and repurposed after seven years of effort and with the support of the City of Savannah, the Georgia EPD, the US EPA, and the Greenfield Environmental Trust.
Cleantech Campus Supports Larger Effort
In late 2020, SeaPoint launched the Cleantech Campus, an incubator for companies, organizations, as well as higher educational institutions dedicated to advancing clean technologies in manufacturing, warehousing and terminal operations. A 60,000 sf state of the art R&D building will serve as the hub of the new creative campus co-located with existing industrial activity.
